The Adirondack Phantoms G.O.A.L. Program

I am honored to have helped the Adirondack Phantoms introduce the G.O.A.L. program to local schools.

The program is designed to teach students to Get Out And Live and fight against child obesity. The program features the Adirondack Phantoms mascot “Dax” and a Phantoms assistant as they teach kids different techniques and opportunities to stay active and healthy.

The GOAL program is designed to demonstrate a more active lifestyle for children, and encourages healthy dietary habits. GOAL is based on Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative, and developed by local principals, physical educators and school nutritionists in conjunction with New York State public health and education objectives.

In addition to coming up with the name for the program, I also designed the logo and helped produce the video presentation used in schools.

BYETTA (Lilly/Amylin)

When BYETTA, an injectable type 2 diabetes therapy, launched in 2005, it was a novel, first-in-class treatment. But even with that marketplace advantage, the product found itself struggling with little growth after 3 years.

Moving away from what was a very clinical, mechanism-of-action-based story, Palio crafted a new communications strategy based on the unique claims Byetta could make with regard to positive patient outcomes. After a creative exploration that involved testing a number of ideas, one concept shot right to the top for BYETTA: “Time for Plan B.”

This bold, factual, and visually honest campaign made an emotional connection by speaking directly to the concerns of physicians. In fact, the connection was so strong that when Palshaw Measurement Incorporated validated the concept, and “idea importance” was considered, the “Plan B” campaign recorded a 99 -- the highest score ever seen in the diabetes segment. As one Palshaw representative said, “ ‘Plan B’ blew away the diabetes norm in every category tested.”

Femring Product Launch (Warner Chilcott)

The message of this campaign is simple. Change your menopause. Not your life.
Keeping up with all your accustomed activities is important to you. You don’t want hot flashes intruding on your day, or night sweats interrupting your sleep. Staying active and eating properly are two ways of dealing with menopause. You may also find that using Femring can help to reduce many of your menopausal symptoms.

NicoDerm CQ (GlaxoSmithKline)

This series of ads illustrates the internal struggle of those trying to quit smoking.

You want to stop smoking. But your body and your brain are used to having a steady supply of nicotine. When you quit, nicotine withdrawal symptoms will set in, causing intense cravings.

NicoDerm CQ is a nicotine patch that’s a form of Therapeutic Nicotine, which means it provides nicotine to your system. It works as a temporary aid to help you quit smoking by reducing nicotine withdrawal symptoms until your body no longer needs nicotine.

Logo Design – Schenectady International Group

In 2006, I designed a new logo for SI Group as part of their global rebranding initiative.
SI Group is a global producer of alkylphenols, phenolic resins, and other chemical intermediates.
SI Group’s resins are used in the coatings that touch our lives on a daily basis. From kids’ paint to household enamels to traffic paint, they’ve got you covered.

Point-of-Sale for High Falls Brewing Company

For High Falls Brewing Company, I developed concepts, directed photo shoots, and was responsible for laying out all print advertising, point of sales displays, billboards and out of home advertising.
High Falls Brewing Company is based in Rochester, New York and is one of the largest and oldest continually operating breweries in the United States. High Falls is best known for its historic Genesee line of brands as well as its Dundee Ales.
Among the brands I supported were Genesee Beer, Genesee Cream Ale, Genny Light, Honey Brown, 12 Horse Ale.

LEVITRA Challenge Campaign (GlaxoSmithKline)

For the launch of Levitra, I was tasked with creating the Levitra Challenge logo and directing a photo shoot which captured a realistic image of the ED sufferer.

By illustrating LEVITRA’s ability to help treat ED patients with comorbid conditions, Palio and the brand team were able to identify a vast target of subsegments and make a significant inroad into differentiating the brand from its competition.

Connecting ED to its associated comorbidities, or underlying causes, was not only key to cueing up LEVITRA as the optimal choice for select patients, it made the discussion around ED easier for patients and physicians alike. No longer was ED just ED; it was a symptom of other related conditions and metabolic disorders, something patients are more comfortable hearing and something physicians are more likely to talk about with their patients.

The results of the campaign were extremely positive: LEVITRA gained market share, and the LEVITRA sales force was reignited and unified behind a smart, solid positioning. In fact, the competition had to block the progress LEVITRA was making within these defined populations.
